The Lake District is a stunning part of the country and with so much to see and do it makes an ideal holiday destination for families and for couples.

Among some of the many places to visit is the Lake District, Aquarium of the Lakes. Here you can discover more about the secret of British lakes at the countries biggest freshwater aquarium. Also check out the wildlife they have on offer such as pikes, otters, sharks as well as mammals such as voles, field mice and even brown rats. A real highlight of the aquarium is the underwater tunnel where you can see diving ducks!

Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum at Grasmere is a must visit for all literary fans. The home of legendary poet William Wordsworth has been beautifully preserved. Take a guided tour of the house where he wrote some of his most beloved poetry. During the tour you can also see internationally important collection of portraits, manuscripts and possessions.

Another literary great also made the Lake District there home. Beatrix Potter Gallery at Hawkshead attracts visitors from all over the world. Here you can learn more about this extraordinary women and see some of Beatrix’s most famous creation in all there glory and as display change annually each time you come back you will see something new.

The Lake District Visitor Centre is ideally situated on the shores of Lake Windermere. The center includes interactive exhibitions, adventure playgrounds for children, a gift shop, café, Mawson gardens and an information centre. From the visitors centre you are also able to cruise around Lake Windermere on regular boat cruises to and from Waterhead and Amleside.

The Lake District Coast Aquarium at Maryport is a great all weather attraction. There are numerous fun and interactive displays of the local freshwater and marine life, in fact you can even get hands on and stroke the rays and starfish. There are some educational talks as well as the chance to take part and feed the fish. Once you have feed, stroked and learned all there is to know about about fish you can head outside and play crazy golf or if your feeling active have a go on the adventure play park.
